Heather Craven’s Portfolio

Welcome to my portfolio. I’ve selected a few examples to highlight some of my previous work.

Training Materials

As part of the Quality and Training for a legal transcription company, I created tailored training materials with the goal of quickly conveying complex information for learners of all skill levels and experience.

In training modules, I would introduce a concept, reinforce it with examples, further explain where necessary, and then supplement that training with handcrafted practice quizzes.

This sample is a recreated excerpt from a longer lesson and is similar (not the same!) to a lesson created for a previous employer. These guidelines are based on standard practices and AAERT guidelines.

Proofreading & Editing

Editing Philosophy

I help writers deliver a clearer, stronger message through eliminating clutter, evaluating word choice, and erasing distracting errors.

With an eye for detail, I am able to spot typos, misspellings, inconsistencies, and grammatical errors that grammar checkers and AI assistants fail to notice.

📖 For creative writing, I prefer to focus on line editing and proofreading, taking care to preserve the author’s voice.

📐 For scientific and technical documents, I will copy-edit and rewrite more aggressively where necessary, valuing clarity above all else.

Scientific Experience

One of my biggest professional achievements as a chemist, besides training others, was getting MBAS certified for total and dissolved organic carbon analyses, increasing the laboratory’s offerings and revenue.

I was responsible for every step of this process from researching equipment to analyzing the first samples. I performed the initial proficiency testing, wrote all the reports for certification, wrote the standard operating procedure, and trained a coworker how to conduct the analysis and analyze the results.

I also wrote this short announcement on the company’s website to notify clients that we could now process these samples in the lab instead of subcontracting them to another lab.
